How much does a website redesign cost?

A redesign is a rebuild with a safety net: your content moves, your rankings are protected, and the result looks like it was made this year. Here's what it costs and why.

Updated October 2026 · by the Good Work team, Bentonville, AR

In short

The short answer.

A website redesign costs $4,500–$8,000 for a typical small-business site of up to eight pages, $4,800 and up for an ecommerce store, and $14,000 and up when the design is fully custom. The price covers restructuring pages, migrating content, a redirect map that preserves search rankings, local SEO setup, and 90+ mobile speed. The main drivers are page count, whether content is rewritten or migrated, platform changes, and integrations.

What a redesign includes

A proper redesign is five things: a new structure (which pages, in what order), new design on the pages that matter most, content migrated or rewritten, a redirect map so every old URL lands somewhere sensible, and a technical foundation (speed, schema, analytics) that's better than what you had. Skipping the redirect map is the most expensive mistake a business makes in a redesign — it's how rankings disappear overnight.

Signs you need one

The site isn't mobile-first. Pages take more than three seconds on a phone. You've added things over the years and it shows. Your Google Business Profile gets more attention than your site. You're embarrassed to send the link. Any two of those is enough.

How to keep your rankings

Export every URL that gets traffic from Search Console. Map each to a new page (not the home page). Keep titles and headings for pages that rank. Launch, then check Search Console for 404s and dropped queries for 30 days. We do all of this as part of every redesign — it's included, not an add-on.

FAQ

Questions people ask.

Short answers, no hedging.

Can you redesign without changing platforms?

Yes, and it's often the cheapest option. If the platform is fine and the design is the problem, a refresh or restructure on the same platform saves a replatform's cost.

Will my Google rankings drop?

Not if the redirect map is done properly and the pages that rank keep their topic. A short dip during re-crawl is normal; a lasting drop means something was missed.

Should I rewrite the content?

Rewrite what doesn't work and migrate what does. Most redesigns rewrite the home page and service pages and migrate the rest.
